Jiu Jitsu

Martial arts as a basis for personal development

Jiu Jitsu at Fight Game Academy

Jiu Jitsu is a versatile and practical form of self-defense that combines various traditional martial arts techniques, including elements from judo, karate, and ninjutsu. This combination makes Jiu Jitsu a complete martial art and one of the predecessors of modern Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

During the classes, a broad range of skills is developed. Training focuses on technique, agility, self-control, strength, conditioning, cooperation, and explosiveness. As a result, Jiu Jitsu is not only physically challenging but also contributes to mental resilience and personal development.

The sport is accessible to everyone: young and old, beginners and advanced practitioners, men and women. Classes are conducted in accordance with the standards of the Judo Bond Netherlands (JBN), ensuring quality and safety.

A key aspect of Jiu Jitsu is that techniques can be adapted, allowing individuals with less physical strength to effectively defend themselves. This is achieved by utilizing the opponent’s force and movement, combined with natural principles such as balance and timing.

During training, practitioners wear a dogi: a traditional uniform consisting of trousers and a jacket, secured with a belt. The color of the belt indicates the practitioner’s level and experience. For a trial class, regular sportswear such as training pants and a sturdy sweater is sufficient.

The classes have an accessible and enjoyable character, with fundamental principles being taught in a clear and effective manner. At Fight Game Academy, Jiu Jitsu classes are led by experienced instructors Gerrie Dusseljee and Michel Tentij, who share their knowledge and passion for the sport with all participants.

These classes are playful in nature, teaching the basics in a fun way.
