Scott Lantinga

Trainer judo

I started at Sportcentrum Bruinsma in Stadskanaal at the age of 6, so that was 18 years ago. At first, my parents’ idea was that it might help me become more assertive, because I was small compared to my peers and quite trusting. There, I learned how to deal with bigger kids, set boundaries, handle social situations, and cope with disappointment. In part because of that, I grew into the person I am today.

What I enjoy most about teaching is seeing someone learn something that I once had to learn myself, and watching that person truly grow through that step. In short, it’s all about the process, so to speak! I also enjoy sharing my perspective on judo through the experience I have gained, and I find it a fun challenge to help each person move forward in whatever situation presents itself.

Other hobbies I gladly spend my time on include that other martial art, jiu-jitsu (😉), but also gaming, just like the kids. I also enjoy walking in nature, playing chess from time to time, learning all sorts of things about modern music history, watching sports, and tinkering with computers. Oh, and of course networking with my colleagues and fellow athletes at various events. In short, I always have something to do.
